We're thrilled to announce the Winter 2025 Knit Along: it's Dog Star by Tin Can Knits! This (FREE!) Knit Along kicks off on January 5th, 2025, and we'll once again be hosting optional Zoom and in-person meet-ups. Browse the Dog Star Collection of yarns!

Dog Star is our very first COLORWORK knit along pattern. It's a great pattern for knitters who are new to colorwork — and for you colorwork veterans, it's easy to modify to make the colorwork more spicy!
Dog Star is knit from the bottom up, with round-yoke shaping at the shoulders. It uses DK-weight yarn (and - psst! - we have some lovely choices for you!).
-
It's accessible. Dog Star is suitable for an adventurous beginner. If you know how to knit and purl, and you're excited to learn colorwork, we think the Dog Star is a great place to start. For the new colorwork knitter, this one has manageable motif repeats with LOTS of stockinette in between!
-
It's size and gender inclusive. Dog Star is the MOST inclusive pattern we've ever chosen, with 29 sizes from newborn through adult! It looks fabulous on a range of genders, body sizes, and shapes.
-
It's customizable. This is a colorwork yoke sweater, with options for adding colorwork motifs at the cuffs and sweater hem. You can make it cropped or tunic length! Or try a provisional cast-on if you're just not quite sure about the length you want.
- Options. We like that Dog Star offers folks the choice to knit a baby or child-sized sweater, particularly if this is a new technique for you and you're not sure you'll enjoy colorwork. You might not want to take on an adult-sized sweater right now — but you probably have some little person in your life you could knit a Dog Star for!
