Knit Alongs

Welcome to the home page for Knit Alongs at Cashmere Goat.

Knit Alongs at The Goat are inclusive, fun ways to build community, expand your knitting skillset, and end up with a fabulous, new item of knitwear.

We're thrilled to announce our Winter 2026 Knit Along: it's Cartography by Tin Can Knits! This will be our THIRD Knit Along with a Tin Can Knits pattern — we love their commitment to clear, well-written patterns, timeless designs, and the awesome support resources they provide!

The Cartography Knit Along (KAL) kicks off on January 4th and runs until the end of February, and we'll once again be hosting optional Zoom and in-person meet-ups.

Here’s what’s especially fun — there’s a Cartography Hat as well as a Cartography Sweater, so you can choose the level of challenge that is suitable for you (see more on that below)! Both designs are knit in DK-weight yarn and the sweater is knit from the top down. The Cartography design is all-over stranded colorwork in 3 or 4 (or more)! colors, but there are only ever two colors per round to preserve your sanity.

  • It's accessible. The Cartography — hat or sweater — is suitable for the adventurous beginner. If you're brand new to stranded colorwork, you may wish to choose the hat to build your skills!

  • It's size inclusive. We choose knit along patterns that are designed to be lovely on a range of body sizes and shapes. The Cartography Sweater comes in 25 sizes, and the Hat comes in 6 sizes from newborn through adult size Large.

  • It's customizable. This is an especially customizable design! Want a longer hat? Add some extra rounds of your main color in between your colorwork motifs. Want a shorter sweater or short sleeves? Stop knitting sooner! Not up for all-over colorwork? Since the sweater is top-down, you'll begin with the colorwork yoke — and you could stop there, or continue with the all-over colorwork pattern. Experienced colorwork knitters could even swap out motifs or make it fully customized!

If you’ve never joined us for a KAL, we do things a bit differently — see this blog post for answers to many of the FAQs about Goat KALs.

Goat Knit Alongs — What are people saying?

I’m less afraid to try something new if I know I have a group — there’s a lot of knitting wisdom in this group!

~ Brenda, Maine

I’ve learned something each time, I’ve enjoyed the camaraderie with the other knitters in the group, and I just feel like I’m growing as a knitter.

~ Gwen, New York

I've learned something with each KAL and gotten braver as we go!

~ Pat, South Carolina
