Longmont Yarn Shoppe Presents: Fiberside Chats

Join Live Online Chats with Some of Fiber's Most Exciting Creators

Cashmere Goat has Partnered with Longmont Yarn Shoppe in Colorado to bring you these fun and informative online gatherings. Come join us!

We’ve invited some of your favorite designers and creators to join us for a series of online gatherings with Longmont Yarn Shoppe & our group of 47 collaborating Yarn Shops across North America. We call these:  Fiberside Chats!

Launched in May 2020, Chats are one-hour Zoom sessions with special guests joining us to give a peek into their world. These designers & creators will discuss their unique path, creative processes, favorite techniques, latest projects, or whatever is inspiring them now. There will be opportunity for Q&A & other fun surprises like giveaways & pattern discounts for those who join!

Fees & Registration

Your seat at Fiberside Chats is just $20. This fee supports the guest speaker & the LYS you sign up under. At the registration page you can choose to purchase your ticket from any of the shops listed.

Have a conflict in your schedule? Don't worry we've got you covered. The majority of our guests allow Zoom recordings of their Chat. Whether the Chat will be recorded or not will be clearly stated for each event. Recordings will be available for 1 week after the chat, only to registered attendees.

Please be aware that registration for Fiberside Chats closes 1.5 hours before the scheduled start time. The Zoom Link will be emailed to registered attendees the evening before and again the morning of the Chat.

Fiberside Chats: Norah Gaughan May 31, 2026

Celebrating 20 Years of Knitting Nature: Design Evolution and Modern Updates

Explore the original thought processes behind Knitting Nature, now celebrating its 20th anniversary, with Norah Gaughan. Norah’s love of biology shines through in these patterns—a creative exploration of science made beautifully knittable.

This year will see the release of 6 of the book's patterns updated to 2026 standards and norms, expanding the size range, flipping the construction to be top down and adding new variations for necklines and body lengths. Enjoy a preview of the new photography and dive deep into the knitting details with some helpful tutorials.

Norah will also delve into the possible customizations to some of the other 30+ patterns in her beloved first book, offering fresh inspiration for knitters of all experience levels.

Bio: Raised by artists in the Hudson Valley, Norah’s father, Jack Gaughan, was a well known science fiction illustrator while her mother Phoebe Gaughan illustrated how-to books and magazines in the home and crafts fields. While immersed in both art and the needle arts from an early age, Norah also maintained an intense curiosity about science and the natural world going on to earn a degree in Biology / Art from Brown University.

During the years that followed she concentrated on her greatest love, knitting. First as a freelancer for yarn companies and knitting magazines; then as the design director at JCA, followed by a nine year stint as the  design director at Berroco where she headed up the design team and published sixteen eponymous booklets. Norah’s upbringing, schooling and experience coalesce in her four hardcover volumes Knitting Nature, Norah Gaughan’s Knitted Cable Sourcebook, Norah Gaughan’s Twisted Stitch Sourcebook and Knit Fold Pleat Repeat.

As an independent designer working out of her studio in historic Harrisville NH, ventures include designing as a team member with Brooklyn Tweed, designing collections for Quince and Co, The Fibre Co and Wool Studio as well as collaborations with the magazines, Making and PomPom. Norah served as the Editor in Chief of Vogue Knitting for a few years and now continues to design and teach in fun places around the world.
