VIRTUAL! Color Theory / Color Play with Iris Eichenlaub
This class will be taught LIVE online via Zoom on June 28, 2025.
Have you ever been stumped or overwhelmed when choosing colors for a knitting project? Your Goat Staffers LOVE to help with color choices — and we want to empower you to feel more confident.
Our relationship with color is deeply personal, so we’ll also explore color through brief prompts and experiential activities. Be prepared to go on some color treasure hunts in your home as you develop your own color intuition!
In this workshop, Iris Eichenlaub will present the basics of color theory as she guides you to understand color through playful exploration. You’ll learn how to read and utilize a color wheel, including how to include neutrals in your color selections.
What you'll need to bring and have accessible:
- Your phone or a tablet with a camera
- Pen/pencil, notebook
- Colorful items around your home such as your yarn stash, clothes in your closet, fruit in your fruit bowl, spools of thread, throw pillows, cloth napkins, etc.
Optional — but super fun to have!
Essential Color Card Deck
Materials (provided before class):

- A handout that should be printed in color prior to class (preferable). If you don't have access to a color printer, you could also refer to it on a secondary device.

About the Instructor:
Iris Eichenlaub was named for the Greek goddess of the rainbow and has loved rainbows and bold colors all her life. She attended Greenfield Community College (MA) and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago for printmaking, and loved the precision and satisfaction of the required color theory classes. One of Iris’s favorite things about working at The Goat is when people want assistance picking out colors — it’s a fun and absolutely joyful game to play together.
