Léttlopi by Lopi
Léttlopi (the name means "light Lopi") is the most popular and versatile yarn in the Lopi range. It is a light worsted to aran weight, sold in 50 gram balls of roughly 100 metres, and it knits up at about 18 stitches over 10 cm on 4.5 to 5 mm needles. If you are only going to try one Icelandic yarn, this is the natural place to start.
Because it is lighter, Léttlopi gives you more control and a more wearable fabric. It is the traditional choice for the lopapeysa, the iconic Icelandic yoke sweater, and it is just as happy as hats, mittens, scarves and children's garments. A women's size lopapeysa typically takes around 600 grams, or about 12 balls, though always check your specific pattern.
Léttlopi comes in a huge palette of heathered colours, which is what makes the multi-colour yoke patterns sing.
