Lantern Moon Knitting Needles: Tried 'em, loved 'em.
First, let's pause to acknowledge that everyone has their favorite circular knitting needles — favorite brand, wood or metal, 4" or 5" tips. Folks need options and we hope we carry YOUR favorite!
We've always enjoyed the quality of Lantern Moon's ebony repair hooks and elegant finishing needles, but we hadn't tried Lantern Moon's knitting needles... until now.
What's so great about Lantern Moon?
Lantern Moon needles feel lovely in the hand — the ebony is beautiful and smooth, but not slippery like metal. Some folks don't love
The cable joins securely to the needle tips and is made of coated metal — no jumpy plastic.
We think the tip is just right — not too pointy, not too dull.
Let's compare.
We carry four brands of wooden needles — KnitPro, Lantern Moon, Clover, and Lykke —and we thought it would be helpful to compare each brand in a fixed circular needle. It's good to know their features so you can make an informed choice.
Let's start with the tips. Note the relative pointy-ness of each tip (left to right: Knit Pro, Lantern Moon, Clover, and Lykke). Clover is quite pointy, and sometimes you want this! Other times that tip might be TOO pointy for the fiber content and structure of your yarn, and could result in splitting.
Next up, consider the material and relative thickness of each cord (same order as above). All are plastic except Lantern Moon, which is a coated metal cable, similar to ChiaoGoo's red cables their metal knitting needles. Plastic cords may "bounce", or keep curling back on themselves, which can be frustrating.
