Frequently Asked Questions
Lace weight is classified as Weight 0. It is thinner than "Super Fine" (Weight 1) yarn. Because it is so fine, it is often measured by its yardage rather than weight alone.
As one of the lightest-weight yarns out there, lace yarn is not for the faint of heart. If this is your very first time dipping your toes into the world of knitting, we recommend trying out staples like DK or Worsted yarns to get used to the craft.
In our yarn collection, you can find all sizes from lightest to bulkiest:
Weight 0 (Lightest Weight) Lace Yarn
Weight 1 (Super Fine) Fingering Yarn Sock Yarn
Weight 2 (Fine) Sport Yarn
Weight 3 (Light) DK Yarn
Weight 4 (Medium) Worsted Yarn
Weight 5 (Bulky) Bulky Yarn
Weight 6 (Super Bulky) Super Bulky Yarn
Lace-weight yarn is typically knitted or crocheted on 0 - 2 US size needles (2.25 - 3.25mm), which you’ll find in our collection of knitting needles. However, make sure you check needle recommendations on your chosen pattern and always check your gauge to be sure you have the correct size needles.
Unless the label specifies "Superwash," most wool and specialty fibers like cashmere will felt if put through a machine. We recommend hand-washing in lukewarm water with a gentle wool wash and laying flat to dry.
