Three Summer Projects — Quick, Satisfying, FUN!

Three Summer Projects — Quick, Satisfying, FUN!

Summer’s in full swing and that means we have LOTS of folks visiting us at the Goat!

Some of you walk in the door with a list in hand and a determined, focused look in your eye. You’ve researched potential project ideas, you’ve browsed our website for the specific yarns you want to check out, and sometimes — wow! — you even have your yardage already calculated!

Other times, you just happen upon us, with wide-eyed smiles and squeals when you walk in! You share stories about your local yarn stores that have closed, and your excitement to be standing in such a beautiful shop, with so many gorgeous yarns to squish in real life!

It can be overwhelming in the very best way. So many yarns, so much inspiration, where to even begin?

The Goat Staff is always delighted to help you find a fun, summer knitting project on the spot. These are just a few of our go-to recommendations.

Mosscele #2 Kerchief/Shawl
Mosscele is a quick and easy little knit, and adaptable to a variety of yarn weights. It’s an eyelet mesh fabric that’s created by alternating a row of plain knit with a row of K2tog and yarn overs. It’s the kind of pattern that’s easy to memorize after you work a few rows, and definitely one you can knit at the beach!

Our shop sample is the shawl size, knit with a single ball of Summer Sesame by Berroco, a worsted blend of cotton and acrylic. It’s a great way to showcase a summer-weight variegated yarn.

You can also knit it to kerchief size, if you prefer.

Mosscele #2 is a free pattern with purchase!

Market Square Bag
Warning: Market Square by Sharyn Anhalt is one of those patterns where if you knit one, you might knit a few more! It’s a really neat construction and entertaining to watch the yarns “play” together.

Our two shop samples are the small size, knit with 2 balls of worsted/aran yarn: one solid-colored ball of Coastline by Jody Long, with one ball Cairns by Queensland, a variegated ribbon yarn. The color combinations with these two are endless!

These bags make great gifts, too.

Cottage Rose Shawl
The Cottage Rose Shawl by Alice Dunn Smith is one of those “just right” patterns: not too repetitive and not too challenging. It strikes a perfect balance of textured sections with stockinette and garter sections.

This is a light and airy knit — using just one skein of fingering weight yarn. It’s not too hot for summer knitting, and it’s definitely an accessory you’ll enjoy wearing in all seasons.

Our sample in the shop is knit up in ontheround’s Plush Single, colorway Himalayan Salt — and it’s always catching the eyes of visitors to the shop!

Cottage Rose has been so popular that Rachel suggested we put together some kits! You can find those here.

Tell us your favorites!
We keep a small binder in the shop called “Hmmm… I want to knit something!” because it’s handy for folks who need inspiration.

Do you have a favorite quick and/or addicting knit we should add to our list of recommendations? Please let us know in the comments!
